SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - The New York Racing Association met on Monday to discuss plans for the upcoming season at the Saratoga Race Course.
Officials from NYRA, including President and CEO Chris Kay, announced the special event lineup that will go along with racing during the 2014 season.
The giveaways will begin on July 20 with a Saratoga baseball cap. On July 27, visitors will receive Saratoga pilsners glasses. On August 10, they will give away a Saratoga tote bag and on August 31, visitors will receive a Saratoga t-shirt.
NYRA officials also announced the stakes and racing schedule, capital improvement, and the jockeys and thoroughbreds expected to compete during the 2014 season.
The Grade 1, $1.5 million Whitney Day will be Saturday, August 2 and the Grade 1, $1.25 million Travers Day will be held on Saturday, August 23.
August 24 will be dedicated to the top New York-bred horses during the inaugural Saratoga Showcase Day.
The 23rd annual Hat Contest is scheduled for July 20. On August 15, the race course will celebrate women with Fabulous Fillies Day.
During the 2014 season, there will be 33 graded flat races, including 15 Grade 1 events.
The season starts July 18 and runs through September 1.
