COLONIE, N.Y. – A home has been destroyed after a house fire in Colonie on Sunday.
The fire broke out on Vly Road around 3 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
Fire officials say flames were seen coming from the rear of the home when they arrived. However, the flames quickly spread.
The second floor collapsed into the home.
Firefighters worked quickly to prevent it from spreading to other buildings.
Two people were inside the home at the time of the fire and they were able to make it out safely. However, a dog was killed in the fire.
Officials are now working to try to figure out what caused the blaze.
"At this time it's under investigation, they know not started possibly in the back bedroom. But at this time the house is a total loss so it's going to take some time for the fire investigation unit from Colonie and the Colonie police department to do that,” said Colonie Fire Chief Brian Curran.
