Premier Consulting and Management Firm Has Four Applications Approved for Final Review by State
LAS VEGAS, June 20, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The MedMen, the first national full-service consulting and management group specifically providing for the budding Marijuana Industry, found approval of all four of its cultivation and production applicants within Unincorporated Clark County, Nevada, earlier this week, adding to last week's news of the group MedMen of Nevada obtaining one of the elite Special Use Permits to open a dispensary in the county. Clark County's process for obtaining dispensary permits has been the most competitive in U.S. history, with 90 applicants vying for 18 spots. County commissioners oversaw three scrupulous days of public hearings where each applicant presented their plea. Group member Kathy Gillespie of A&B Printing represented MedMen during the hearing. In an effort to secure success in the local and state application processes, The MedMen have worked with this group since August 2013. On June 17, 2014, the group was approved for cultivation and production facilities and will proceed to the state's application process for final approval of all three facilities, including the dispensary.
Clark County looked toward merit-based criteria for approving applicants, such as location and community-based provisions; whether or not applicants were local business investors/local residents within the county or state; the medical, pharmaceutical, and pharmacological expertise and other affiliation of group applications (do applicants have representatives, accountants, and horticultural expertise); the security and inventory implementation plans of a proposed marijuana business; whether an applicant group is in part women-owned-, minority-, or veteran-based; potential realization of both structural and business plans; how any given group might give back to the health industry; and more. The state of Nevada has the final approval after all local/city-approved applications are confirmed. Applications to the state will be accepted this August 5-18, and many industry insiders speculate that locally-approved applications will pass through the state's approval process, especially for dispensaries, which carry a limited allotment of possibility. Now, the state application remains the final hurdle in the overall process. All other MedMen-affiliated Clark-County approvals for cultivation and/or production facilities are for: Vegas Valley Growers, Nevada Medical Group, and Green Therapeutics.
Currently, throughout the state of Nevada, The MedMen is working on 28 establishment applications, which would add to the 100+ businesses they've already opened around the country. The MedMen is also looking toward Florida as they approach a vote on broader marijuana legislation in November, with many optimistic based on early polls fluctuating between 60 - 88% in support of the ballot passing, and many veterans hoping for a law that will include treating PTSD. Meanwhile, in Illinois, The MedMen is working with eight clients as they prepare for applications/guidelines to be announced later this year.
