CLEARWATER, FL (WFLA) -

May 24th goes down as the day Mike Smith almost died.

A car turned left into his path, forcing him to do a front flip over the car, landing on his feet.

Smith explained the split second moment as he watched the video taken from a red light camera at Gulf To Bay and Belcher in Clearwater.

“He's just waiting in the middle of the intersection. I'm coming up Belcher,” Smith recalled. “He's making a left on Gulf to Bay. He just comes out. He just comes out of nowhere.”

The crash totaled his motorcycle, but that's not keeping him off the road.

On Thursday, News Channel 8 found him buying a new one in Largo.

“I'm not gonna lie. I was a little scared hopping on that one today. But I think I'm back to normal,” Smith said.

Smith is a server at the Clearwater Beach IHOP, but may be able to find work as an acrobat.

“I gotta bail, I'm not going through the car. I have to go over it,” he said.

Smith’s only injuries: a scuffed elbow, hand, leg and back. He wasn't wearing a helmet.

The crash left him a little stunned. In the video, you can see him staggering around.

With his new bike, Smith plans to be a little more careful at intersections.

“That guy could have killed me that day. Real talk,” he said.

Clearwater Police cited the other driver for an improper left turn, and driving with a suspended license.

Mike Smith got a ticket for not having a motorcycle endorsement.
