SUV driver and motorcyclist ticketed for DWI after early morning accident
ALBANY, N.Y. – Two people are accused of driving drunk after an investigation into a motor vehicle accident.
According to Albany Police, on Sunday around 3:20 a.m., officers responded to the area of Second Avenue and Slingerland Street for a reported accident that involved an SUV and a motorcycle.
Upon arrival, officers say they observed a male victim lying in the street and a woman was inside of the SUV.
An investigation revealed that the driver of the SUV, Laura Stefanik, 25, was traveling on Slingerland Street when she initiated a three-point turn in the roadway. While making the turn, the operator of the motorcycle, Ramel Alexander, 31, was also traveling on Slingerland Street.
Police say Alexander struck the driver side door of Stefanik’s vehicle with his motorcycle, causing him to be ejected. Alexander went over Stefanik’s vehicle and landed in the street.
Alexander was treated at the scene by medical personnel and transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital. He has since been released.
Stefanik was also treated at the scene for minor injuries. She was transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital for further evaluation and released.
Investigating officers say they determined that both Stefanik and Alexander were both driving while intoxicated. As a result of the investigation, Stefanik and Alexander were both charged with Driving While Intoxicated.
Stefanik was also cited for Failure to Yield the Right of Way. Alexander was cited for Imprudent Speed.
Both were arraigned this morning in the Albany City Criminal Court.
