EAST GREENBUSH, N.Y. – Saratoga Casino and Raceway and Churchill Downs Inc., have released plans for the proposed casino and resort in East Greenbush.
The companies updated project details on Monday, and released the official name of the planned destination resort and casino in East Greenbush.
Capital View Casino & Resort will be an eight-story hotel and casino, designed to complement the iconic skyline on the Capital Region.
The $300 million resort and casino is expected to create partnerships with local businesses and community groups after receiving the endorsement of the Rensselaer County Chamber of Commerce.
On June 12, the East Greenbush Town Board passed a resolution in support of the casino. Residents of the town have been divided on the proposal.
The plan became public in April when developers announced their interest in building the casino on Thompson Hill Road. Developers said the casino would bring 1,700 construction jobs and another 1,700 jobs once the casino opens. They also said the town would benefit from sales tax and property tax.
Final proposals for casinos are due on June 30. The State Gaming Commission, the group tasked with selecting where casinos will go, said it won’t consider a casino license application without the resolution.
There are 18 groups vying for four licenses that will be granted in the Capital Region, Finger Lakes Region and the Catskills.
