TROY, N.Y. -- Troopers are preparing for an increase in summertime traffic on State Route 7 from the city of Troy to the state line.
They will be armed with radar, lasers, and unmarked state police vehicles.
Officers will be on the lookout for hand held-cell phone use, texting while driving, tailgating, speeding, unsafe passing, and drivers under the influence.
Speeding and unsafe passing carry a minimum of three points on a driver’s license, tailgating gets four points, while hand held cell use and texting gets five points.
A driving while intoxicated conviction can lead to a suspended license and jail time.
