PITTSFIELD, Mass. – A 41-year-old man accused of killing an elderly woman in North Adams is due in court Thursday for a pre-trial hearing.
In October 2013, David Delratez, 41, pleaded not guilty in the beating and stabbing death of 84-year old Ellen Depaoli. It is alleged he also stole the victim's vehicle and pocketbook after last month's homicide.
Delratez previously pleaded guilty to the charges in North Adams City Court, however the charges were upgraded and the trial will be held by the Berkshire Superior Court.
Depaoli's death was ruled blunt force trauma to the head and sharp object injury to the torso.
Delratez lived at 512 Walker Street in North Adams, about 200 yards from the victim's home. Investigators told NEWS10 ABC there was no evidence of forced entry or a struggle at the woman's home on 409 Walker Street.
The suspect allegedly visited Depaoli often and would even have dinner with the woman.
Court records show Delratez had a violent past and a parole violation just days before police say he murdered Depaoli. The records showed Delratez and the victim's son, Jim Depaoli, were both involved in selling drugs and committing robberies.
After Delratez's Septmeber 19th arrest, he told Bennington Police "I loved that old woman, I hurt that old woman, I could see it in her eyes." Police have not determined a motive in the homicide case.
Delratez pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and larceny in September. The larceny charge is connected to the alleged theft of Depaoli's car, which was found in Bennington, Vermont.
