ALBANY, N.Y. – A 19-year-old has been arraigned on several felonies, including attempted murder.
According to District Attorney P. David Soares, Desonte Welch was arraigned on one count of attempted murder in the first, one count of conspiracy in the second, one count of attempted murder in the second, two counts of assault in the first, two counts of attempted robbery in the first.
A Grand Jury previously returned an indictment alleging that on April 17, Welch conspired with a co-defendant to intentionally rob and cause death of a victim in exchange for money. The incident took place in the area of Garden and Raymo Streets.
The indictment also alleges that Welch did fire a handgun at close range into the victim’s forehead, causing life threatening injuries and traumatic brain injury.
The Albany man pleaded not guilty to his charges on Wednesday and was remanded into custody without bail.
The case against Welch’s co-defendant, Shaqquese Salmond, remains open and pending.
The victim remains hospitalized with serious physical injuries.
