One dead, one wounded in early morning stabbing in Troy

TROY N.Y. – One woman is dead and one man is being treated at a local hospital after an early morning double stabbing.

According to Troy Police, the incident took place at 93 Sixth Avenue, which is between 102nd and 103rd Streets.

A neighbor in the area say they were woken up by children screaming and running outside, which led them to call police. The same neighbor said they called police only two hours earlier because he heard gun shots on the block. However, it is unclear if the two incidents are related.

Police say they were called to the scene around 3:45 a.m. for the reported stabbing.

Upon arrival, they found the female victim, Amber Fernald, 33, of Troy, dead. Police say she was a resident of the third floor at the home, where the incident took place.

A male was also found injured and he was taken to Albany Medical Center.

Three children, belonging to the deceased woman, were in the home at the time of the stabbing. They are currently with their family.

"There was a male victim who also had pretty severe injuries to him. He was taken to albany medical center hospital for treatment. We need to speak with him. The detectives are currently writing up search warrants to continue the process of the scene," said Captain Dewolf.
