One dead, three injured after two-vehicle accident in Ghent
GHENT, N.Y. –A two-vehicle accident, which left one dead and three injured, is under investigation.
According to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, patrols handled a two vehicle accident around 11:45 p.m. Saturday on County Route 9. The accident happened near the intersection of Konig Road.
Authorities say that K-9 Deputy Travis VanAlstyne was on routine patrol when he observed a Chevrolet Traverse traveling northbound in the southbound lane, being operated recklessly.
The Deputy initiated a traffic stop and when he exited his patrol unit, the driver sped away.
As the Deputy was able to catch up to the vehicle, authorities say it had already been involved in an accident with a pick-up truck.
The driver of the pick-up truck, 19-year-old Kyle Macfarlane, and his two passengers, 23-year-old Timothy Laraway Jr., and 24-year-old Brian Macfarlane, were taken to Albany Medical Center.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the operator of the Chevrolet Traverse, Kasandra Solverson, 26, was traveling northbound on County Route 9 and traveled over into the southbound lane, striking the pick-up truck.
Solverson, of Minnesota, was pronounced dead at the scene.
