Sheriff: 18-year-old stole car, crashed into parked cars
HUDSON, N.Y. – An 18-year-old is facing a felony and several other charges after he allegedly stole a car and crashed.
Columbia County Sheriff’s Deputies were on routine patrol in the area of Third and Union Streets in the City of Hudson on Sunday morning. According to authorities, around 3:30 a.m., the deputies observed a vehicle traveling south on Third Street without headlights on.
The deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop; however the vehicle accelerated down Union Street and struck five parked cars. The driver, later identified as, Tavaris Grant, 18, allegedly fled on foot after the accident.
Hudson Police Officers assisted the deputies with Grant’s arrest.
Authorities say Grant made admission to officers while he was under arrest.
Grant has been charged with felony grand larceny in the fourth, misdemeanor unlawful fleeing from a police officer in a motor vehicle in the third, DWI, reckless driving, and violation unlawful possession of marijuana.
Grant was arraigned and remanded to Columbia County Jail with no bail.
