FONDA, N.Y. -- Just a few days after ?complaints over door-to-door tactics? in Montgomery County, the company involved has suspended its local sales team.
Village of Fonda Mayor, Bill Peeler, said he and his neighbors were upset over tactics used by solicitors going door to door asking to see homeowner's utility bills.
Spark Energy, the company that hired the solicitors, sent Reporter Anya Tucker an email saying the team operating in Fonda has been suspended pending an internal investigation.
This is the detailed response from a spokesperson with the company:
At this time, here is what we know as well as our initiatives in the community:
1. We are currently looking into the conduct of the sales agents working on behalf of Spark Energy in Fonda, NY. Please note, the sales agents are hired and managed by an outside vendor. Spark Energy provides training and door-to-door policies to all of our vendors nationwide to ensure any staff representing the company always adhere to the highest level of conduct and present themselves in a responsible manner at all times. The team operating in Fonda, NY has been suspended pending the results of our investigation.
2. Spark Energy’s permitting procedures require pre-notification for permitting applications. Spark Energy is reviewing whether protocol was followed, as part of the investigation. We will update you when we have answers.
3. It is our goal to adhere to the highest level of conduct and to partner with local communities. As a result, we have reached out to Mayor Peeler and the Montgomery County Sheriffs office to gather additional information regarding this incident, and explore ways we can collaborate to educate the community on green energy alternatives as well as proper door-to-door sales practices.
