GUILDERLAND, N.Y. – Chicago firefighters are riding bicycles all the way to Boston to raise money to find a cure for childhood cancer.
The riders started their journey at Wrigley Field and will end at Fenway Park. They began biking almost two weeks ago.
The firefighters are riding to raise money for the Henry Schueler Foundation which started in honor of a young man who died from pediatric leukemia in 2008. Baseball was one of his favorite sports.
“We spent a lot of time at Wrigley when Hank was alive with my kids. Still a favorite place of ours,” his father, Matt Schueler, said. “We do a game every year and Fenway is a place he never went to, but a small part of him will get there in two days hopefully.”
The fundraiser started in 2010 as a bike around Lake Michigan and has grown every year since then.
