Wesley Chapel grads break into flash mob during ceremony
WESLEY CHAPEL, FL (WFLA) -
Wesley Chapel High School's Class of 2014 came together one last time during a graduation ceremony to remember as the graduating students broke into a flash mob.
Led by their school mascot "Wesley Wildcat," graduates broke out in dance during the May 30, 2014 ceremony.
Senior Jacob Irving was among them.
“Some of the students were like ‘I didn't want to embarrass myself’, I was like ‘this our graduation, we need to have fun, have fun with what we are doing’, and stuff like that,” Irving said.
They are the Wesley Chapel Wildcats, which is why they went with the High School Musical's Wildcats-theme music.
The photographer who recorded the flash mob, Gregg Irving, is Jacob's father. His wife Alana, a guidance counselor, was on stage.
The flash mob was a surprise to most people in the audience.
"I kept it a secret about me being there and I said ‘I don't know who is going to dance with you, I am not quite sure ‘cause you know, I'm really not going to go to graduation’, and they were all bummed out,” said dance teacher Stacie Enyart.
The school's principal signed off on the move.
"That was a different way to express their joy, and they were really cute and awesome about it," said Carin Mettles. "It was neat to see young adults doing that and getting their lives started after high school."
