Sheriff: Attempted child abduction a misunderstanding

OAK HILL, N.Y. – The Greene County Sheriff’s Office says what was originally perceived as an attempted child abduction, was just a misunderstanding.

Police received a 911 call just after 8 p.m. Sunday reporting a white male with white hair and a white beard driving a blue pick-up truck attempting to pick up two children in the area of Schoolhouse Hill Road.

The truck was described as a newer style, single cab blue pick-up truck with an eight foot bed. Police said there were not any other distinguishing marks noticed during the incident.

The children involved got an adult right away, and the unknown male drove off without further incident.

The Greene County Sheriff's Office said they found the vehicle in question and it turns out the man had lost his dog and was asking people if they had spotted it. They confirm that no crime was committed.

But the sheriff's office says the kids did the right thing. They were uncomfortable, and reported the incident immediately to adults.
