Advocates push New York State Legislature to raise minimum wage

Posted: Updated:
ALBANY N.Y. - Monday morning the New York State senate labor committee will be reviewing six bills that would increase the state's minimum wage.

According to the Department of labor minimum wage for New York State is $8 an hour. Governor Cuomo has expressed his support for a $10.10 minimum wage.

Dozens of fast food workers and policy experts will press the Legislature to take action in raising minimum wage.

Advocates will be talking about recent wage hike victories in more than half a dozen cities and states, including Seattle's $15 an hour minimum wage deal.

The hearing is scheduled for 10a.m. Monday at the Legislative Office Building. Advocates from Maryland and California are expected to speak.
