Waterford, N. Y. - Fire crews were called to the Mohawk River in Waterford Tuesday night to help save a woman who went into the water in an attempt to save a deer.

The call came in around 8:30pm on the river at the end of Museum avenue.

When fire crews arrived, they found the woman tethered to a rope along the river, and helped get her out of the water safely. She was not injured. The deer had been in the water there for hours.

Some residents at the scene told our Marty Kasper that they made repeated attempts to call police and fire to rescue the animal. The deer did not survive the ordeal.
