First responders to attend solar panel safety workshop

Posted:
ALBANY, N.Y. - First responders in Albany will be attending a meeting to learn about the dangers they face with solar panels being installed on the roofs of buildings in the Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk School District.

U.S. Energy and light is the company that installed the panels and oversees their use. They're hosting the workshop on Tuesday for first responders, to inform them of the extra steps they need to take when responding to an emergency at one of the buildings.

The solar panels are constantly collecting energy, and present a hazard at all times, even if they're disconnected from the schools electrical system.
