State Police investigating fatal boating accident on Lake George

LAKE GEORGE, N.Y. - State Police say they are investigating a fatal boating accident which happened on Lake George. 
 
According to authorities, Troopers responded to Cotton Point Road in Bolton Landing shortly after 10 p.m. Friday, for a reported of a boat that crashed into the shore. 
 
Upon investigation, Troopers determined that John Michaels, 57, was operating the 21 foot Steiger boat on Lake George when the boat struck rocks and trees along the shoreline near Cotton Point Road.  

Michaels was the only person on the boat, and police say he suffered massive trauma. Michaels was pronounced dead at Glens Falls Hospital. 

Michaels was the co-owner of The Michaels Group, a family owned business in the Capital Region. The company released a statement following his death which can be found below this article.
 
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
 
Bolton Police, Bolton Fire Department, Bolton EMS and Lake George EMS responded and assisted at the scene.
