Green Island Fire Department receives federal grant

GREEN ISLAND, N.Y. - The Village of Green Island Fire Department has received a federal grant.

The Assistance to Firefighters Grant in the amount of $47,044 was made possible through FEMA.

Congressman Paul Tonko (NY-20) made the announcement of the grant on Wednesday. Tonko wrote a letter of support to FEMA for the department's grant application last December.

“The Capital Region’s first responders put themselves at risk to protect others during times of emergency,” said Tonko. “It is critical that these brave men and women have access to modern equipment and top-grade facilities. This grant program has enabled our local firefighters to better protect our communities and educate the public on safety and prevention. I thank the Green Island Fire Department for all they do to keep homeowners and small businesses in their community safe.”
