WILTON, N.Y. – The New York State police are currently investigating a rollover motor vehicle accident that occurred on the Northway.
The accident occurred just after 4 p.m. Tuesday between exits 15 and 16 on I-87 Northbound. Four vehicles were involved in the accident.
According to police, multiple witnesses reported seeing a dark colored sedan unsafely change lanes and strike a vehicle operated by Geoffrey Saddlemire. This caused Saddlemire’s sedan to cross into the path of a white Toyota 4 Runner operated by Angelina Rush.
Rush’s SUV rolled over multiple times as it left the interstate. A fourth vehicle operated by Brittany Kerr sustained minor damage as it was struck by the 4 Runner after the initial collision.
The dark colored sedan fled the scene and is currently being sought by Troopers.
Responding troopers credited the proper use of a child booster seat for likely saving the life of a seven-year-old passenger in the 4 Runner. As the 4 Runner rolled over, the driver’s side roof collapsed. The seat held the child in her place protecting her from both the collapsing roof and possibly being ejected from the vehicle.
She sustained a non-life threatening shoulder injury.
Rush was also injured suffering from a non-life threatening shoulder and head injuries, and a nine-year-old in the SUV suffered minor bumps and bruises. Both Rush and the nine-year-old were properly seat belted.
Troopers are asking for assistance in identifying the dark colored sedan that fled the scene. The vehicle was last seen heading northbound from the accident and should have side damage with possible gray paint exchange.
Anyone with information is asked to call the New York State Police Wilton at 518-583-7000.
