TROY, N.Y. – The first ever English Style Tea Lunch with sweet treats, Victorian era costumes, etiquette, and fancy hats, was held on the Russell Sage Campus on Sunday in Troy.
The English lunch was held to help raise money for the YWCA, a group that helps women in the community during their time of crisis by providing affordable places to live. This gives women and their children a fresh start.
YWCA is the area’s largest housing provider for women and children. The home providing service has nearly 100 units.
Daquetta Jones, Executive Director of the YWCA said during this fundraising event she wanted to make the history of Troy come alive.
YWCA also provides assistance with the Ready to Work program fundraising efforts, and brings in students for internships.
Events such as the English Lunch are extremely important to raise money to keep YWCA alive.
