Operation Please Remember Me urges community to remember the fallen

Colonie, N.Y. -- One group in Colonie is honoring those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom, making sure American heroes are remembered every day.

The effort is spearheaded through Operation: Please Remember Me.

Saturday was a solemn display of gratitude along Route 9 in Latham, with hundreds of patriot guard riders paying tribute to the 1,201 local men and women who gave their lives for their country.

The project, founded by Tom Regan, is a very personal one.

“I had four friends of mine that were killed in action in Vietnam,” he said.

The 120 American flags tied with a black ribbon sit atop utility poles -- representing 10 families each who have lost a loved one in combat.

Regan hopes to preserve their memories and remind us all not to forget them. The flags will stay up until the Fourth of July.
