ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., May 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Two confirmed cases of MERS in the US have increased travelers' questions about travel insurance. To address this, Squaremouth, America's fastest growing travel insurance comparison site, has launched the MERS and Travel Insurance Information Center.
The comprehensive webpage provides official position statements by Squaremouth's travel insurance carriers explaining their coverage options related to MERS. It also includes answers to frequently asked questions, travel warnings and a list of airports on high alert. The MERS and Travel Insurance Information Center is managed by Squaremouth's team of industry experts and is updated as events unfold.
"We wanted to be proactive with this information and have it readily available for our customers," says Megan Singh, Marketing Manager at Squaremouth. "At this point, there are still more questions than answers, but travelers can rest assured that as information becomes available, it can be found here."
As of Wednesday, May 14, the MERS outbreak has not been classified as a public health emergency, yet, airports throughout the country have already begun posting travel advisories and opening quarantine sections.
Currently, a travel insurance policy can still be purchased to cover a MERS infection, however this can change. One of the most important upcoming events is the date at which the MERS outbreak is deemed a "known event" or "foreseeable." Any travel insurance policies purchased after this date will not cover the virus.
Squaremouth will continue to update the MERS and Travel Insurance Information Center with official position statements, travel advisories and answers to travelers' questions.
