ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Political foes of Governor Andrew Cuomo are calling for prompt criminal investigation of his administration following a news report that his office thwarted attempts by his own special corruption commission to investigate groups with ties to him. The New York Times reports Secretary Larry Schwartz pressured commissioners to stop subpoenas to a media-buying firm Cuomo used and to the Real Estate Board of New York, whose members financially supported the governor's campaign.

WALKILL, N.Y. (AP) - A 55-year-old man and his 8-year-old granddaughter are recovering from bite wounds suffered when the man's pit bull attacked them inside his upstate New York home. The Times Herald-Record of Middletown reports that retired corrections officer told police in the Orange County town of Wallkill that he and his wife were sitting on a bed with their granddaughter on Sunday while she petted the couple's 3-year-old dog.

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York has raised the fine for trying to steal someone's pet to $1,000. The amendment to state law signed today by Governor Andrew Cuomo is effective immediately. The old maximum fine of $200 was set in 1970, according to the governor's office.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - Tickets for the New York State Fair can be bought online for the first time ever. Governor Andrew Cuomo says the new system will make it easier for people to visit the Syracuse fairgrounds during the event's 12-day run.
