ALBANY, N.Y.—A Rathdrum, Idaho man was sentenced to 21 years in state prison on Tuesday.
Thomas Ryder, 45, was found guilty following a bench trial on March 18.
Ryder was found guilty of one count of Attempted Murder, one count of Strangulation in the first degree, one count of Strangulation in the second degree, one count of Assault in the second degree, and one count of Assault in the second degree- to injure a victim age 65 or older when the defendant is at least 10 years younger.
On May 23, 2013, Ryder attempted to cause the death of a 65 year old relative who lives in Albany. Ryder attempted this by obstructing her breathing using his hands and repeatedly hitting her in the head with a closed fist and pair of headphones.
Ryder will face 21 years in State Prison followed by five years of Post Release supervision.
