Two unsolved homicides in less than two weeks in Albany

Posted: Updated: May 12, 2014 08:31 AM
ALBANY N.Y. - Early Sunday morning Albany Police say a 23-year-old man was gunned down near Madison Avenue and South Pearl Street.

The victim, Jesse Overton, later died at Albany Medical Center from his injuries.

Hours after the victim's passing, friends and family mourned the loss. A memorial was created with candles and balloons in the area of where the murder took place.

Just 11 days prior, 35-year-old Thomas Johnson was shot and killed on Second Avenue.

The violence has neighbors, like Dawn Johnson, worried for her safety.

"I walk this area at night time I get off at midnight and I'm concerned so my husband and the dog usually come meet me because of the high crime that's been happening within the last month."

Sunday morning’s fatal shooting is the second homicide in Albany that remains unsolved.

Anyone with information on either of the shooting should contact Albany Police.
