COLUMBIA COUNTY, N.Y. -- In recent weeks, first responders have been given a new tool when it comes to saving the lives of overdose victims.
Believe it or not, it's already helped save a local victim.
The Columbia County Sheriff says Deputy Cindy Madison found a 63-year- old man barely breathing after he overdosed on pain medications.
She administered Narcan, which got him breathing again.
Narcan can reverse the effects of certain drugs like heroin, morphine, hydrocodone, and vicodin.
On Wednesday lawmakers passed a bill to boost the availability of Narcan.
Now, the bill goes to Governor Andrew Cuomo for approval.
