AMSTERDAM, N.Y. - A puppy found in grave condition in a local ditch will have to be put down because it's injuries were so severe.
According to the Amsterdam Dog Control Office, the six-month-old pitbull had multiple fractures to its back, legs and jaw. The dog, which has been named Trooper, also suffered from malnutrition and was found in an emaciated condition.
The Amsterdam couple who found the dog and brought it to get care at the Amsterdam Animal Hospital believe Trooper was abused and abandoned. They said they found him in a ditch along Touareuna Road.
“I went down in the ditch to get this dog, and it was horrible,” Dennis Kimball said. “Such a sad thing to see. I picked him up; called my wife.”
Trooper was taken to an orthopedic doctor Wednesday, but the Kimballs want justice.
“I checked his nails,” Dennis described. “They still had the little points on them because he’s about five-months-old. He had not been running. Somebody dumped this dog off, and I’m just hoping they can do something for him. This is unacceptable to treat animals or anyone that way. This is unacceptable."
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office confirms it is investigating the incident but would not comment further.
