Schenectady firefighter claims sexual harassment, death threats, at fire department

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Schenectady City Attorney has confirmed that the city has received a notice of claim from a female firefighter who claims she was a victim of sexual harassment by coworkers.

According to Attorney John Polster, Firefighter Jennifer Costa alleges that she was subjected to sexual harassment at the fire department for a number of years. She also claims that she has received two separate death threats.

Costa’s attorney filed the claim on Monday.

The claim also alleges that Costa was passed over for promotions as a result of the harassment and she was forced out of her job of 14 years.

The last allegation, which was cited in the claim, happened on February 2, when Costa said she was “constructively discharged” from the fire department after reporting her second death threat.

Polster said that the city will be investigating her claims.
