Two men accused of attempting to steal TV from Wal-Mart

QUEENSBURY, N.Y. – The Warren County Sheriff’s Office say two men have been arrested after they allegedly tried to steal a television from a store then flee from authorities.

According to authorities, on Sunday around 10:30 a.m., officers reported to the Wal-Mart on State Route 9 for the larceny of a 40’’ flat screen high definition television.

Witnesses told authorities that an unknown male placed the TV in a cart and tried to flee the store without paying for the item. However, the man was confronted by loss prevention at the main doors of the store. The man then fled the area without the television.

Officers say that they spotted the suspect’s vehicle based on a description from witnesses. As a traffic stop was initiated, the vehicle pulled into a convenience store on Route 9 and both occupants fled the vehicle.

One of the men allegedly entered the store and attempted to change his clothes while inside to confused officers, say authorities.

Both men were eventually detained. The man who attempted to change his clothes was identified as the suspect involved in the larceny. Stolen merchandise was allegedly found in the suspect’s vehicle.

The Sheriff’s Office said they arrested Trevor Barber, 32, for petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree. John Bovee Jr., 39, has been charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth, conspiracy in the sixth, and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the third.

Both men were arraigned and remanded to the Warren County Correctional for lack of bail.
