Colonie K-9 thanks family that donated vest

COLONIE, N.Y. – The Colonie Police Department gave thanks on Saturday for a special donation to keep one of its four-legged officers safe.

K-9 Vader was recently outfitted with a bullet-proof vest.

The vest came courtesy of the organization “Vested Interest in K-9’s”, which helps get vests for police dogs across the country.

Vader’s vest came about thanks to a woman from all the way up in Maine. A relative of hers once served as a Colonie Officer in the 1940s and she wanted to help keep the current generation safe.

It is a big gift because organizers say it is not easy to get the vests.

The family of the woman responsible for the gift was personally thanked on Saturday by Vader and his human partner, Officer Gerald Shaw.
