Man facing rape charges pleads not guilty

FORT EDWARD, N.Y. -- A former National Guard recruiter from Hudson Falls has pleaded not guilty on charges of rape and strangulation Friday in Washington County Court.

Robert Haas, 35, was arrested in April; after a woman told police he raped and choked her in his apartment.

Since his arrest, the Washington County Sheriff's Department has received calls from around the country, alleging similar crimes.

Authorities say because of his position with the National Guard, he was able to meet women in several different states. He faces the following charges:

  • Rape
  • Strangulation
  • Assault
  • Unlawful imprisonment

Haas is also facing charges after police found two guns he did not have permits for during their investigation into his other charges.

The judge reduced his bail to $150,000 bond. He has been remanded to jail and set to reappear in court on July 18.
