LATHAM, N.Y.—The New York State Police wanted to remind consumers that with warmer weather comes one of the more common schemes of the spring season.
A traveling paving crew may offer a residence a low- price to revitalize their driveway.
The scheme involves individuals claiming to be driveway contractors or pavement companies showing up at doorsteps. If the homeowner agrees to get their driveway fixed, just to pave the entire driveway can cost over $5,000.
Using poor material that does not properly coat the driveway is another scheme businesses will try to get away with.
To avoid these problems, state police said to always ask for a written contract to ensure the price will be what they originally offered. Police also suggest asking for references and checking them before agreeing to have work done.
