Police: Man found driving with .34 BAC

AMSTERDAM, N.Y. – State Police say they arrested a man who was allegedly driving with a BAC that was more than four times the legal limit.

According to authorities, on April 4, Troopers responded to a report of a suspected intoxicated driver in Amsterdam’s Price Chopper Plaza.

The Trooper located the vehicle and found the driver was not wearing his seatbelt. Upon interviewing the driver, the Trooper discovered the man was highly intoxicated.

The driver, Douglas Szyjkowski, 35, was arrested. He submitted a breath test at State Police barracks and it was determined his BAC was .34-percent, more than four times the legal limit, say police.

A drug recognition expert determined Szyjkowski was also impaired by drugs, according to authorities.

Szyjkowski was charged with DWI, Aggravated DWI, driving while ability impaired by drugs, and operating a motor vehicle with no seatbelt.

The man was arraigned and released on tickets to be back in court in May.
