TROY N.Y. - Business owners along Fourth Street in Troy say they're fed up with the violence in the area after a shooting injured five people.
Police say a gunman opened fire in front of Gino's Pizzeria around 12:30 a.m. Sunday.
According to authorities, all those who were shot suffered from gunshot wounds to their lower body, and none of the injuries appear to be life-threatening. One of the victims’ relatives said their family member is recovering at Albany Medical Center after surgery on Sunday.
Officials believe this was not a random act of violence; and appears three shooting victims are innocent bystanders.
“This was a directed attack at one of the persons standing out at the pizza shop that night. This wasn't a decision by someone to go down to that block and shoot it up,” said Troy Police Captain John Cooney.
Troy Police say they have a better understanding of what happened early Sunday morning and the investigation is moving in a positive direction.
“We’ve analyzed the location of the shooting. We've analyzed the persons involved and we are getting a clear picture of what happened. Not necessarily why, but certainly what,” explained Cooney.
As a result of Sunday's shooting, Gino's Pizzeria has some property damage. The front door has been boarded up with some duct tape and cardboard.
Area business owners say the violence is really hurting their business and they're fed up with it.
"People don't want to come out. They're scared to come out. You lose money and then you close that's how it happens. We're all suffering for the last six months over everything that's been going on around here and nothing's being done about it yet,” said business owner Carmine Batuello.
Sunday's shooting happened in the same area where a big fight broke out in January at Kokopellis involving Troy police officers.
Captain Cooney says detectives are looking through surveillance video that will help with the investigation. Police are asking the public if they know something to let them know and not take matters into their own hands.
Officials are not releasing a description of the person who may be responsible Sunday's shooting. However, they do say it's a male suspect. No arrests have been made.
