ALBANY, N.Y. -- Two men arrested and charged in the October 2013 murder of an Albany man.

Albany Police say they at the time of the shooting, they received a call of shots fired in the area of Washington Avenue and Cortland Place at around 3 a.m.

The victim, 26-year old Edward Maxim, later died at Albany Medical Center.

Jahmeek Croley, 26, of Albany, and Jovell White-Span, 22, of Rensselaer, were each arraigned for their alleged roles in the homicide.

White-Span and Croley were arraigned on one count of felony Murder, and one count of felony Conspiracy each in Albany County Court.

The indictment alleges on October 19, 2013 in the area of Cortland Place in the City of Albany, Croley and White-Span caused the death of Maxim by means of shooting him with a pistol. The indictment further alleges the both co-defendants conspired to commit the crime of murder.

Croley pleaded not guilty to all charges and was remanded in lieu of bail to the Albany County Correctional Facility.

White-Span pleaded not guilty to all charges and was remanded in lieu of bail back to the Rensselaer County Correctional Facility.

Both men have criminal backgrounds. According to Rensselaer Police, Jovell White-Span was arrested Monday charged with two counts criminal possession of a weapon. In 2012, Jahmeek Croley was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in another murder case, according to the D.A.

Maxim's family spoke with NEWS10 ABC Friday after they had their first look at one of the men accused of killing their beloved EJ.

"We wanted today to happen, but we need it to stick. Today is just the beginning of a very long process. We are six months, six days into this from the day that my brother has been taken from us and today is just the beginning,” said the victims sister, Rene Maxim.

His family says he was a working father who always made everyone laugh.

Renee Maxim says she and her siblings will be the voice for their brother who they lovingly called EJ, but again, they painfully realize justice will not bring him back.
