Man that caused crash, killing uncle, sentenced


GREENPORT, N.Y. – A Livingston man was sentenced to jail after pleading guilty to causing a crash that killed his uncle.

Nicholas Howard, 20, pled guilty to DWI and vehicular manslaughter in in March. Howard was driving a pick-up truck on December 27, 2013 when he lost control of the vehicle, went off the road, rolled several times, and burst into flames, according to state troopers. The crash killed Scott Fenoff, 40, who was Howard's uncle.

An investigation revealed that Howard's pick-up truck was traveling westbound on Church Road when it lost control. Howard suffered non-life-threatening injuries. After being released from the hospital, Howard drove back to the scene of the wreck drunk and was charged with DWI.

Howard was sentenced to six months in jail followed by five years of probation.
