Urban Raid Obstacle Race To Touch Down On Governor's Island, Less Than One-half Mile From The Southern Tip Of Manhattan!

NEW YORK, April 24, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- RAID Events LLC, owners of the RAID Series of Obstacle Races, announced today that Urban RAID, the city based leg of the Series, will become the first ever obstacle race to be held on Governor's Island in Upper New York Bay.

The race will take place on the recently renovated historic northern tip of the 172 acre island which will be opened to the public for the first time in 2014.  Urban RAID NYC will consist of a series of professionally engineered obstacles set along a 5K course designed to test the total fitness of participants while offering spectacular views of New York City. 

Capped at 1000 racers Urban RAID NYC is open to men and women of all fitness levels over the age of 16 who desire a new challenge. In addition to open age divisions for both male and female racers, Urban RAID NYC will also offer an elite division in which the top competitors from other RAID Series races can compete for the RAID Series Championship. In 2014 The RAID will hold races in Portland, Maine, Boston, Massachusetts and Albany, New York.  Post-race a consumer festival will be held featuring music, refreshments and a sponsor village.   

Urban RAID NYC will be filmed by Emmy Award-winning production firm 360 Media Ventures for a dedicated national television program.  The program will focus on personal stories of racers, the inherent challenges of the race and the spectacular backdrop of Governor's Island and will air in late fall 2014.

Registration for Urban RAID NYC will open on April 24th at www.raidevents.com and only 1000 spots are available. Partners of Urban RAID NYC include Sports Authority, Shipyard Brewing Company, and The Trust for Governors Island.  The charity beneficiary is Special Olympics of New York.
