WHITE CREEK, N.Y. – A man was killed in a White Creek house fire on Wednesday, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
Officials confirm a senior male was found at the home located at 203 Route 22 in White Creek.
When first responders arrived at the home, they discovered flames shooting up from the roof. It was when they made their way inside to battle the fire that they found the body of one person on a couch.
The sheriff's dept. said the fire started early Wednesday afternoon, and at least five different departments responded to battle the flames.
Officials said at least two people lived in the home, a husband and wife, but the wife was not home at the time of the fire.
Emergency crews tried to save the man’s life, but he passed away at the scene.
"Our units were on scene fairly quickly. Battled the fire, located a victim inside. He was removed, they attempted resuscitation and weren't successful. So that's pretty much what it is at this point,” Bruce Hamilton of the Washington Co Sheriff Dept. said.
No one else was injured in the fire. Crews tried to salvage personal items from the home Wednesday evening.
The state fire marshal investigated the scene. Much of their efforts were focused around a kitchen in the back of the house.
The cause and origin of the fire have not yet been determined.
