Bethlehem leaders question Albany casino proposal

BETHLEHEM, N.Y. – Some leaders in the Town of Bethlehem are concerned about the traffic problem a proposed casino could bring to the town.

Casino developers proposed the E23 Casino and water park to be built at Exit 23. Town Supervisor John Clarkson sent the developers a letter expressing their concerns about traffic.

Clarkson states Route 9W between the Delmar Bypass and Fuera Bush Road could be inundated with traffic. He also said the area where the casino would be built already suffers from significant rush hour traffic.

The supervisor wants the developers to do a traffic study. The developers released a statement saying, “This is the type of input we were hoping for when we asked the Supervisor for his comments. The jobs created by E23 will be catalyst for the infrastructure improvements. We view E23 as part of the solution to congestion problems.”

More community meetings have been planned by the E23 casino developers. The first is at Bishop Maginn High School on April 24. The meeting in the town of Bethlehem is on April 28.
