WATERVLIET, N.Y. – The Watervliet Central School District and police department received two bomb threats leading to an evacuation on Monday.

The school district posted to their website that a bomb threat made early Monday morning towards the school was determined “not credible” by the Watervliet Police Department. The threat was phoned into the police department around 12:30 a.m. using an online server that makes the call virtually impossible to trace.

The caller was very specific as to the threat and when the bombs go off. Upon arrival early Monday, police found nothing was out of place at the exterior or interior of the building.

The police department along with the school district agreed upon additional safety measures at the school Monday and all bags being carried into the building would be inspected.

A second bomb threat was received by dispatch around 9:30 a.m. Monday. The caller was again very specific as to the type of device and agent and a time for detonation. Police recommended that the district evacuate the junior-senior high school building.

Students were transported off-site to the Dome, and the Watervliet Police Department is investigating. Students were dismissed for the rest of the day, and parents picked up their children from the Dome.

The building was searched again by K-9 resources and cleared as safe. The second threat was also deemed “not credible.”

The Watervliet Police Chief said the calls were nothing more than pranks where the ultimate goal was to have the SWAT Team called in.

The school will be open on Tuesday, according to the chief.
