SC woman shot to death in car after child finds gun in backseat
EASLEY, S.C. -
A woman is dead after being shot in the passenger seat of a car.
Pickens County Coroner Kandy Kelley says 22-year-old Alexandra Santos of Easley died Thursday after she was shot in the back as she sat in the front seat of a friend's car.
Police say a 6-year-old child in the back seat found the gun on the floor board and fired it. The bullet went through the passenger seat and killed Santos.
It happened at a stop sign on Hastings Circle in Easley Thursday afternoon. Now, authorities are looking to see if any gun laws were broken.
This is the second time in a week where a child got a hold of a gun inside a car that resulted in death. In Gaston Saturday, 7-year-old Juliet Lynch was shot and killed after a 5-year-old boy picked up a gun from the trunk of a car. He was trying to get a toy gun right next to the real one. No charges were filed in that case because authorities determined no state law were broken.
