Albany police respond to large fight

ALBANY, N.Y. – Albany Police are investigating a massive fight that took place on Henry Johnson Boulevard Monday.

Patricia Duncan is a Subway employee who saw the fight. She said she saw four or five kids running down Henry Johnson Boulevard, and she thought they were running because it was a nice day, but that's when she said the fight started.

"It started with, like, one group of kids just sort of messing, chasing one kid, but then it seemed to erupt into a whole bunch of people," she said.

Duncan said she witnessed an adult allegedly punching a child. She then heard broken glass, and that's when she called the police.

"Somebody's window got shattered," she said. "I know that they went into Stewart's and trashed the place because the lady from Stewart's came out and talked to the cops."

Duncan alerted authorities because she thought the fight was getting out of hand after allegedly seeing someone get stabbed. That's when she decided to close Subway's doors.

"We ended up having to lock the doors because we didn't want them rushing over here because they started coming over here, and that's when we locked the doors," she said.

Duncan said the police arrived quickly. She offered to help other people get medical assistance, but she said everyone turned it down.

"I offered to call an ambulance but by then they were already gone," she said.

Duncan said she has seen a lot of fights, but Monday's escalated beyond anything she had ever seen before.

"We've heard about instances, but we've never had anything of this scale happen so close," she said. "Usually things are pretty calm around here. I mean, there's fights, but nothing of that scale."

Albany Police said there haven't been any arrests in the case and the ages of those involved is still unknown, but they are actively looking into what exactly happened.
