BERNE, N.Y. – There was a serious rollover accident which had an Albany County roadway closed and local farmers scrambling to help round up more than 100 cows.
The accident happened after 11 a.m. on Tuesday on a stretch of Rock Road in the Town of Berne. A tractor trailer hauling more than 100 cows lost control and rolled over.
First responders say the driver and passenger were okay. However, some of the animals were killed and other gravely injured.
Most of the cows did survive and wandered into a nearby field.
"We were dispatched to an over turned tractor trailer approximately over about a hundred animals. Some of them didn't make it," said Berne Fire District Assistant Chief Dave Clark.
Officials on the scene said the animals were being transported from an Albany County farm to a location in the Midwest.
