NISKAYUNA, N.Y. – A new project in Niskayuna is emerging from the ground up and is a part of one local teen's Eagle Scout project.
Installing a brand new playground is a big job for any community. A number of people pitched in to help put the pieces together on Saturday afternoon at the Niskayuna Reformed Church. The brain behind the project is only 16-years-old.
"I really don't think it's anything special. It's my Eagle project," said boy scout David Jones.
Jones said he started asking around the church to see where he could help out when the idea of a playground was proposed and he decided to take on the challenge.
"I like to help people do stuff from the community," he said.
The volunteers on Saturday consisted mostly of church members.
"This is a wonderful operation started by a 16-year-old member of ours," said Pastor Scoot DeBlock.
DeBlock said the construction of the playground speaks volumes about Jones' leadership in the community.
