SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – While the Union men's hockey team was gearing up to take home the NCAA title on Saturday night, the campus in Schenectady was full of excited Dutchmen fans.
"The teams played very well. I went and watched the game on Thursday. We went to the semifinals and the regionals last week and watched them play. They're a really good team," said Union fan Mark Andrews.
Parents joined students inside Messa Rink to cheer on the college, who took home their first national title in Philadelphia on Saturday.
The Wells Fargo Center was packed with Minnesota and Union fans. Union College finished the season with the first NCAA title in the hockey programs history.
Union scored three times in less than two minutes in the first period. They won overall 7-4.
"I just like that we're the underdogs that go to a 2,000 kid school and we're competing against these huge universities, D-1 hockey and it's just amazing," said Sarah Kittross, a Union student.
