ALBANY, N.Y.—With the harsh winter behind, spring is finally here and golf courses have taken notice.
Many golf courses in the Capital Region will be opening on Friday.
Saratoga National golf club opened for the season Friday, along with Frear Park Golf course in Troy, who says all 18 holes will be opened Friday.
It was an exciting way to start of the day for a number of golfers who made it for tee time at 9 a.m. Friday morning. John Costantino was the first to hit the links. He saidhe's been itching to get out on the green and was calling all week to make sure opening day was still on for today.
"The phone has been off the hook for about a week now with the forecast and the proposed opening which we were finally able to commit to," said Peter Taveres, Vice President of Golf Services.
Tavares said they're expecting about 100 golfers to show up for the big day.
"After a winter like this, it's like the first day of sunshine for us. This is the beginning of a great season," said golfer Bob Bentson.
Saratoga National is offering reduced rates for the
spring because of the harsh winter, beginnger and professional golfers are all urged to check them out.
In the past week, two other courses have also opened, Briar Creek and Whispering Pines in Rotterdam.
The Capital Region has finally welcomed spring.
