ALBANY, N.Y. – A man was found guilty of Rape in the first degree, a violent felony, on Monday.
According to District Attorney P. David Soares, Gene Bowman, 36, of Albany, was found guilty following a jury trial.
On January 15, 2012 at around 6:30 a.m., Bowman forcibly raped a victim in a parking lot on Central Avenue in the City of Albany. During the assault, Bowman strangled and repeatedly hit the victim in the head with a closed fist. Authorities said Bowman also told the victim that he would kill her if she resisted.
Following the assault, the victim ran towards several witnesses screaming she had just been raped.
He was arrested on June 10, 2013 following an investigation by the Albany Police Department which matched DNA that was collected from sexual assault evidence with the defendant's DNA.
Bowman faces up to 25 years in State Prison when sentenced on June 2, 2014. He was remanded to the Albany County Correctional Facility to await sentencing. He must also register as a Sex Offender following his release.
